We may have thought the tales of a monarchy, chivalry in France died with the last royals Louis, and his queen Marie-Antoinette lost their heads. Hark, the knighthood has resurfaced yet again and has extended its sword into an unsuspecting Hungary. According to news reports today, an organization dubbed “De Saint Ouen et de l’Etoile” has taken it upon them to issue the title of Knighthood to those worthy, presumably those who have everything else.

The knighthood’s membership kit presumably includes a diplomatic passport as well as diplomatic license plates for your ‘knightly’ automobile. Those that have been taking advantage of the offer have been generating hundreds of Euros in illegal parking fees.
Hungary is housing the manufacturing plant of the passports and plates, but the distribution extends farther than France and Hungary, where this organization is registered.

According to the only related link www.ordresaintouen.org/ that appears in a number of search engines using “De Saint Ouen et de l’Etoile, there is no information on how one becomes a member.
Most likely, for obvious reasons, there is no information about the passports or the license plates mentioned when I translated the pages from French to English. Oh, can it be said it is surprising to see that they have social, economic, commercial connections with Gambia, Senegal, and Albania?

Investigating the site a bit further, is the discovery that this is a corporation based in London, England, although it is “historically” a French organization. Here it claims to be a college headed by the Prince Grand Master who is the overseer of the ethics and actions of the order. What ethics are those pray tell?

Although they do not list enough information on the site to incriminate their actions, one supposes that after an e-mail contact full details will be forthcoming of what the membership benefits include. That is at least until the Hungarian and French governments get the word out that the passports are spurious.

It was a pleasure to learn this delightfully useless information in the context of a well-written article. Thanks Ryan. ps. Royalism is, believe it or not, still alive here in France (albeit on transfusion.....).
